Parallel to the 72nd Army day, a series of projects were launched island-wide by Sri Lanka Electrical Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) on the directions of the Director of Electrical Mechanical Engineers. As part of it, 7 SLEME troops completely overhauled 22 condemned Army vehicles and made 100 foot bicycles usable.
The Commanding Officer, all Officers and Other ranks of the 7 battalion SLEME made 22 vehicles, including 4 Buses, 4 Tractors, 1 Land Cruiser, 2 Trucks, 1 Lorry, 2 Canter lorries, 2 water Bowsers ,5 Trailers, 1 Three-wheeler and 100 Foot Cycles motorable or usablewere and handed them over to respective units on the Army Day ( 10 October 2021) at Saliyapura GR Regimental HQ.
Major General Harendra Ranasinghe, Commander, 1 Corps at Kilinochchi accepted the fleet on behalf of the Commander of the Army.
The FMA Commander,-KLN, Major General H.M.H.N Herath was also present at the location.
