SLEME Secures the Championship in SLAVF Athletic Meet


Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) recently won the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) Inter Regiment Athletics Meet for the 4th successive year by obtaining 257 points while SLLI was placed in the second place by obtaining 202 points.

The finals of the meet commenced on Thursday (16.07.2015) at Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium, Diyagma. Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva attended as the Chief Guest for the closing ceremony.

SLEME relay team emerged the champions and Craftsman U.P.A.N Karunasinghe who made a new game record in Triple Jump became the best performer in field events.

The entire Championship brought much excited sensation and cheers to the youthful Volunteer Force personnel while their associates amply demonstrated their prowess securing stunningly impressive victories.

Sri Lanka Electrical & Mechanical Engineers marked a milestone once again by achieving the overall Championship over 600 athletes. They were able to reach the peak of success by making new records and clinching the much-admired Championship Trophy.

At the invitation of Major General Channa Goonetilleke, Commandant, SLAVF, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army attended the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Here follow the results;

400 m (Men) Craftsman T.M.M.D Peiris made a new Meet record clocking 47:82 seconds.

4 x 400 m (Men) Craftsman T.M.M.D Peiris, Craftsman P.A.D.P.R Kumara, Lance Corporal W.L.C De Silva and Lance Corporal P.A.D.P.R Kumarage won making new meet records and their achievement was 3:13.65minutes.

4 x 100 (m.event ) (From left) Craftsman A.G Nuwara Paksegedara, Craftsman A.L.M Ashroff, Lance Corporal A.R.M Rajaskhan and Craftsman S.S Abepitiya set up new Army records & new meet records clocking 40:35 seconds in the overall relay champs.

Lance Corporal H.A.M.I.G.I.N Herath won 800m creating a new meet record and his achievement was recorded as 1:49.80minutes.

Lance Corporal Dinesh brought the first ever gold medal in Pole Vault to the SLEME in its’ history.

Craftsman U.P.A.N Karunasinghe won the 1st place in Triple Jump and became the Best Athlete in field events.

Lance Corporal A.R.M Rajskhan received the trophy from the Chief Guest for overall relay championship.
