SLEME Revives More Abandoned Vehicles for Delivery to SLMA

The Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) of the Army, once again re-affirming its commitment to upgrade continued mobility and transport needs at the SLMA for administrative purposes on Sunday (19) added a set of completely-repaired and refurbished vehicles which hitherto remained abandoned and not serviceable.

After the pipping ceremony, General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army was invited to formally hand over the new fleet, inclusive of a Tata Star Bus, Ashok Leyland, Toyota Coaster, Unicolt truck (EME production) and an Electrical and Mechanical Engineers -produced Truck-mounted horse carrier, specially designed to SLMA horse stable. Those EME craftsmen of 2(V) SLEME under the guidance of Commanding officer of the 2(v) SLEME, attaching significance to the day where a new set of budding young Officers joined the organization.

Those efforts saved a large chunk of foreign exchange to the state coffers since only spare parts cost money for the Army. This initiative was taken by the Director, SLEME following instructions, given by the Army Chief. Their keys were symbolically accepted by the SLMA Commandant, Brigadier Nalinda Niyangoda on the same occasion.

At the same occasion, Major General Ashoka Peiris, Chief Signal Officer and Colonel Commandant, Sri Lanka Signal Corps, together with signal Brigade Commander presented a set of communication equipment for use in the Army to the General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army.

Senior Officers, including, Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff and Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force attended the brief handover event.
