SLEME Releases Its 70th Anniversary History Book

Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) of the Army, marking its memorable 70th anniversary released its recorded years of service to the Nation, ‘70 Wasaraka Piyasatahan’ during a special dinner night at Hotel Kingsbury on Monday (16).

Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Commander of the Army, together with Mrs Sujeewa Nelson, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit at the invitation of Major General Duminda Sirinaga, Colonel Commandant, SLEME graced the evening as the Chief Guest of the 70th anniversary commemorative ceremony.

Major General Duminda Sirinaga and Mrs Sirinaga warmly welcomed the day’s Chief Guest and his spouse and conducted them to the hall.

The highlight of the evening was the release of the SLEME History Book ‘70 Wasaraka Piyasatahan’ which sums up the historical saga of the Regiment with special focus on its combat support and contribution to the successful culmination of the humanitarian operations in the North and East. The SLEME maintains and repairs all electrical, mechanical, biomedical and optical equipment of the Army and employs recovery and repair support to operational commitments across the island with the support of its many base workshops. It is also credited with the production of Unibuffel Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) in Sri Lanka.

The maiden copy of the ‘70 Wasaraka Piyasatahan’ was presented on the same occasion to the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva by the SLEME Colonel Commandant amid applause. The day’s Chief Guest made a brief speech to the occasion and hailed the success story of the SLEME and achievements of its past Commandants, Senior Officers, veterans and all retirees.

Afterwards, Major General Sirinaga, appreciative of the Commander’s participation on the occasion awarded a special replica of a Unibuffel as a token of memory on the 70th anniversary celebrations. The day’s Chief Guest also left compliments in the SLEME visitors’ book before his departure.

Retired Senior Officers of the Regiment, Major General Jagath Gunawardene, Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Senior Officers and their spouses joined the anniversary event.Best Sneakers | Klær Nike
