SLAOC Regimental HQ Bids Farewell to its Outgoing Colonel Commandant

The Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps (SLAOC) Regiment in a fitting goodbye ceremony at the Regimental Centre in Dombagoda on Monday (09) bade farewell to one of its exemplary Senior Officers, Major General Chandana Marasinghe, the Master General Ordnance and Colonel Commandant SLAOC who just retired from the Army after a distinguished career of more than 35 years of service.

According to military traditions, the SLAOC Centre Commandant Brigadier Ajith Munasinghe welcomed the outgoing Colonel Commandant and invited him to review the Guard Turnout at the main entrance before he was accompanied to take the salute in the Guard of Honour, the highest tribute in the organization. Afterwards, he was invited to leave memories by planting a sapling in the compound.

The outgoing Colonel Commandant joined officers for a tea at the Officers’ Mess after a while and signed a few documents in respect of his relinquishment of the appointment in the office.

Also, the outgoing Colonel Commandant declared open the newly-constructed Officers’ accommodation block at the Officers’ Mess complex as one more feature of the day's agenda. The outgoing Colonel Commandant's sustained efforts saw this building was constructed within a few months due to commitment and dedication of Staff Officers and troops of the SLAOC Regimental Centre.

Later on the day, he was hosted to a formal dinner at the Regimental Officers’ Mess in accordance with military traditions where the departing Senior Officer was awarded a special memento before he delivered his farewell speech to the gathering. The whole event was held adhering to health regulations and guidelines.
