SLA Service Corps Hockey Team Carries Championship for the First Time


The Inter Regiment Hockey Championship – 2012, organized by the Sri Lanka Army Hockey Committee, chaired by Major General V.U.B Nanayakkara got underway during December 27 – 28 at Kotahena St Benedict’s College grounds.

Six best teams, selected using league method included Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA), Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Military Intelligence Corps (MIC), Engineer Service Regiment (ESR), Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (SLASC) and Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps (SLAOC) who vied in the semi-finals to enter the final round.   

The final tussle during a close fight was contested by Sri Lanka Army Service Corps against Engineer Service Regiment. After a tense encounter, SLASC Hockey players reported a convincing victory of 4 - 3 goals against the players of the ESR.

Accordingly, SLASC carried the Hockey Championship for the first time in its history, pushing ESR and MIC Hockey players to be 1st and 2nd Runners-up in the tournament respectively.

Lance Corporal D.R.M.I.K Jayasundara of 4 ESR was adjudged the Best Player and Private S.D.N.D Premathilake of MIC became the Best Goal Keeper in the tournament. Recruit K.M.R.D Kulathunga of SLA was selected as the Budding Sportsman.
 
Major General A.W.J Crisantha De Silva, Commander, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force as the Chief Guest attended the award ceremony of the Inter Regiment Hockey Championship – 2012 at the invitation of Major General V.U.B Nanayakkara, Chairman, Army Hockey Committee.

The final tussle commenced after recital of the national anthem and the Army song after the arrival of the Chief Guest on the occasion. Major M.R.L. Dharmasiri, Secretary Army Hockey Committee raised the vote of thanks.
