Sinhala Language Training Centre in Paranthan, Sponsored by Hindu -Buddhist Cultural Assn Opened

In an attempt to renew age-old bonds of close understanding and reconciliatory moves through the most vital mode of communication, the establishment of a long-felt need of a training institute for Sinhala Language teaching came to fruition on Thursday (28) when the EU Lanka @ Forum took the lead and sponsored the National Sinhala Language Centre at Paranthan, Kilinochchi through the leadership of the Hindu-Buddhist Cultural Association with the objective of attracting Northern youngsters to learn the language of the country's majority.

The visionary concept of the project, 'Unity through Language' while imparting Sinhala language proficiency to Northerners is also meant to promote religious understanding and sentiments among Hindus and Buddhists, whose religions bear striking similarities. At the invitation of those sponsors, Major General Sampath Kotuwegoda, Commander, Security Forces - Kilinochchi as the Chief Guest inaugurated the Centre during a simple ceremony after ribbon-cutting, together with the Chairman, MTS Legal Association and General Secretary, Hindu-Buddhist Cultural Association, Deshamanya Mr M.T.S Ramachandran, Commander 571 Brigade, Colonel Dhammika Welagedara, Chief Coordinator for Civil Affairs at SFHQ-KLN, Lieutenant Colonel L Kithsiri and several senior military officers attended the inauguration.
