In the wake of worsening rainy weather conditions, troops of the 61 Division and the 14 Division under the Security Force Headquarters - West (SFHQ-West) with the coordination of Medical Officers of Health held several Dengue prevention and awareness programmes in most vulnerable areas in Colombo, Kegalle, Kalutara and Galle Districts during 1 - 3 September.
Major General Deepal Pussella, Commander, SF - West instructed more than 165 military personnel including Officers to take part in the project on a priority basis as the epidemic was fast spreading according to medical authorities.
Those awareness programmes educated the public on the dangers of its outbreak and the importance of preventing it in their respective areas by cleaning waterways, garbage piles, gutters, etc. More than 20 medical officers joined those programmes.
