SFHQ-W Marks 13th Anniversary with Different Projects

Giving pride of place to religious and commemorative ceremonies and civilian-oriented welfare projects, the Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni (SFHQ-W), commanded by Major General A.K.S Perera, marked its 13th anniversary for three days in Vavuniya.

As the commencement of the programme, war-affected children, housed in Etambagaskada Rajamaha Vihara, were entertained to a sumptuous lunch by the SFHQ-W on Tuesday (22) after the members of the Maha Sangha (buddhist monks) in the temple were offered alms in a religious ceremony on the same day. Those children were also gifted with parcels containing educational accessories and other daily needs after the lunch.

Afterwards, a brief religious ceremony, conducted by the clergy of all four major denominations at the foot of the SFHQ-W War Hero memorial, saw transfer of merits to the memory of fallen War Heroes. Major General A.K.S Perera, Commander, SFHQ-W placed the first floral wreath and saluted the memory of War Heroes before the monument as other senior officers lined up and followed suit.

As the third phase of the anniversary programme, 500 tree saplings were planted in the SFHQ-W premises on the following day (23).. Major General Perera, together with officers and other ranks, kicked off the tree planting campaign.  Troops also sat together for a special lunch, the same afternoon as a special fellowship gesture.

The anniversary programme ended the following morning with a special address, made to the troops by the Commander, SFHQ-W.
