SFHQ-W Begins New Year with Offerings & ‘Dansel’ at Ruwanweli Seya

Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) marked the dawn of the New Year - 2023 by offering milk foods (‘Kiri Ahara Pooja’) to the most sacred Ruwanweli Maha Seya at Anuradhapura on Saturday (31 Dec).

Major General Champaka Ranasinghe, Commander SF-W, together with Brigadier Pradeep Gamage, Brigadier General Staff at SFHQ-W, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks participated at the event.

Venerable members of the Maha Sangha performed religious rites and rituals.

Meanwhile, Wanni troops considering facilities needed for hundreds of devotees that flock to the sacred Ruwanweli Seya compound during the turn of the New Year put up a huge 3000 sq ft temporary hut for devotees and provided 5000 cups of herbal drinks throughout the whole day on Saturday (28 Dec).

The herbal drink, prepared under the guidance of Dr. Indrajith Somarathna of Ayurveda Medical Faculty at University of Colombo was provided to hundreds of devotees and those who observed ‘Sil’ on that day.

Major General Priyantha Weerasinghe, Commander, Forward Maintenance Area (North Central) under the guidance of the Wanni Commander was instrumental in supporting those devotees.
