A representative group of both Officers and Other Ranks serving the Security Force HQ-Jaffna (SFHQ-J), Divisions, Brigades, and Battalions learnt more about Media and Its Impact on the Army and the country at large during separate conferences that got underway for two days (12-13 August) at the SFHQ-J auditorium.
At the invitation of Major General Chandana Wijayasundera, Commander, Security Forces-Jaffna, the conference sessions, themed on "Diverse Impact of Media on the Army-Its Positive & Negative Aspects/Challenges" were conducted by the Army Media Adviser, Mr Sisira Wijesinghe on both days.
The lectures touched on the question of Rapid digitalization, Communication as critical decision-makers, Media's diverse developments, Social Media, Image building practices, Misinformation and disinformation, the need for continuous awareness, Preventive measures, Modern trends, and the Impact on the country and the Army, International repercussions, Positives and negatives of Media, General behaviour of Media and journalists, Community-oriented projects and impact, the importance of mindful communication, Nature of news/ Newsgathering, Ethics and moral conduct of Media, etc.
More than 30 Officers serving in Divisions and Brigades attended physically and 40 Officers virtually through zoom technology. The conference sessions for Other Ranks were attended by 120 physically and about 200 through zooming. Separate question-answer sessions followed towards the end of both sessions.
