SFHQ - J Turns 25 Years

The Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) proudly celebrated its 25th Anniversary on 18 June 2021 marking yet another milestone. A series of programmes coincided with the anniversary as per directions of the Commander Security Forces-Jaffna, Major General Priyantha Perera.

Marking the formal beginning of the SFHQ-J's silver jubilee day’s events, an alms-giving to a group of nine Buddhist monks was held at the Officers’ Mess after they were conducted to the Officers’ Mess in a colourful procession which included flag - bearers, dancers and drummers. A representative gathering of officers and troops serving the peninsula took part in the alms-giving in keeping with stipulated health guidelines.

Commemoration of fallen tri service War Heroes who served under the Security Force Headquarters Jaffna got underway afterwards offering floral tributes to their memory at the Palaly War Heroes' Monument. With the participation of Senior Officers and Other Ranks along with the Commander Security Forces-Jaffna, Major General Priyantha Perera on 19th June 2021. This event was conducted under strict health guidelines before the climax of the events took place.

In accordance with military traditions, the Commander Security Forces- Jaffna, Major General Priyantha Perera graced the Anniversary day’s celebrations. On his arrival at the venue, he reviewed the Guard Turn Out salute, presented by 17 Gemunu Watch (GW) troops and sat for a group photograph.

Further, the Jaffna Commander was invited to plant a mango sapling at the Headquarters premises as a symbol of memory. General Officers Commanding of 51, 52 and 55 Divisions, Brigadier General Staff, Brigadier Administration and Quartering and Senior Officers were also present at the occasion.

Later, the Commander Security Forces-Jaffna, all Divisional Commanders, Senior Officers, Officers and other ranks attended to an all rank tea before the Commander addressed the troops and recalled the saga behind establishment of the SFHQ- J and its eventful history. Commending the commitments and dedication of the troops, he wanted everyone to work collectively for the greater benefit of Jaffna masses and help them in whatever the way possible.

At dusk, a special Bodhi Pooja, administered by a Buddhist monk was held in the temple premises of the Security Force Headquarters in order to invoke blessings.
