SFHQ-E’s Reality Based Self Defence Course No 4 Ends

The passing-out ceremony of the Reality Based Self Defence (RBSD) Course No 04 for 64 graduates, including 17 women soldiers serving the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) was held at 23 Division Headquarters premises on Thursday (22) under the auspices of the Commander, Security Forces - East, Major General Santhusitha Pananwala.

As directed by the Commander of the Army, this Reality Based Self Defence (RBSD) Course was carefully designed under the conceptual guidance of Commander, SF-E, Major General Santhusitha Pananwala with special focus on enhancing the capacity of men and women serving in the SFHQ-E to face future security challenges. Accordingly, the course consists of three phases such as Tamil Language Course, Int-Collection Course and (RBSD) Course.

In the Course No 04, 64 trainees (47 men and 17 women) successfully completed their training in the Reality Based Self Defence (RBSD) with the expertise and professionalism of Lieutenant Colonel K.V.I.L Jayaweera, Commanding Officer, 1 Commando Regiment and the soldiers of the 1 Commando Regiment.

General Officer Commanding (GOC), 24 Division, Major General Mahinda Mudalige, DIG Batticaloa, W.J. Jagodaarachchi, GOC, 23 Division, Brigadier Chula Abenayake, Deputy Commandant, ITC, Brigadier Uditha Bandara, Brigade Commander, 231 Brigade, Brigadier Senarath Niwunhella, Brigade Commander, 232 Brigade, Colonel Roshan Jayamanne, Brigade Commander, 233 Brigade, Colonel Anil Samarasiri, Brigade Commander, 241 Brigade, Colonel Wipula Chandrasiri, Brigade Commander, 242 Brigade, Colonel Upul Weerakoon, Commanding Officer Navy Base ‘Kashyapa’, Commander, Udaya Kumara, Commander, SLAF Station, Batticaloa, Wing Commander, Vithanage, Commanding Officers and a large gathering of Officers and Other Ranks were present at the occasion.

Reality Based Self Defence (RBSD) or Reality Based Martial Arts refer to systems of self defence that focus exclusively on reality based self defence scenarios and conditions.

Unlike mixed martial arts and traditional martial arts styles like karate, reality based self defence is not a hobby or sport and it does not participate in tournaments or sport combat competitions. It's all about learning how to fight for self defence in a actually threatened scenario.
