SFHQ-E Leads Conduct of Drug Prevention Awareness Programme

Security Force HQ - East (SFHQ-E) with the noble objective of keeping both students and civilians informed of dangers of narcotics and its use initiated a combined project and alerted the attendees at Kattankudy Madhya Maha Vidyalaya on Tuesday (12 Sep).

The Federation of Kattankudy Mosques and Islamic Institutions, Alcohol and Drug Information Center (ADIC) and the SFHQ-E launched the project in consultation with Major General M.K.U.P Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG, Commander, Security Forces-East, religious authorities and the ADIC.

Over 600 students and youngsters in the area participated in the lecture session at the school and the project was supported by Mr. Abdul Rahim, Senior Programme Officer of the ADIC, and Mr. Abdul Tastir, a retired Food and Beverage Safety Officer.

The Security Force East Commander, Major General M.K.U.P Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG in his opening remarks told the gathering about the non-traditional threat, posed by this addiction which is posing a severe challenge to the forward-march of the country and its young generation. He also vowed to continue such awareness programmes covering the whole of Eastern Province in future too.

Major General W Chandrasiri RSP USP psc, General Officer Commanding of 24 Infantry Division, Brigade Commander of 243 Infantry Brigade, Commanding Officers in the area, together with the President of the Federation of Kattankudy mosques and Islamic Institutions, Mr. Rauf Majeeth, religious and community leaders and heads of civil organizations attended the awareness programme.
