Senior Officer on His Own Buys School Accessories for Deserving Students

The humanitarian compassion of the Army, dedicated to the needs of low-income group school children of several Government Tamil Mixed Schools in Illuppakadawai, Anthonipuram, Mundampiddy, Kovilkulam and few other areas of Mannar, recently resulted in the donation of school accessories to over 100 deserving students, thanks to the generosity, extended by the 541 Brigade Commander through his own resources.

Brigadier Dasantha Munasinghe, 541 Brigade Commander having seen through his own eyes the travails of life and scarcities of school-going children in affected families decided to sponsor the project on his own as a hand of friendship to the community in those respective areas.

Accordingly, students learning at Illuppakadawai Government's Tamil Mixed School, Anthonipuram Government's Tamil Mixed School, Mundampiddy Government's Tamil Mixed School, Koorai Government's Tamil Mixed School, Kalliady Government's Tamil Mixed School, Kovilkulam Government's Tamil Mixed School, Aligar Muslim Vidyalaya, and Joseph Vass Maha Vidyalaya, all of them in the Mannar district received those incentives around the same time.

12 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Artillery troops who coordinated the distribution awarded each selected student a gift pack which contained books, stationery, pens, instruments and other essential accessories during this community-oriented project.

Principals of those schools, teachers and parents appreciated the Army-initiated gesture.
