Senanayake, Mangala & Swarnakanthi of Sri Lanka Army Establish New National Records

THE NATIONAL SPORTS SHOOTING FEDERATION of Sri Lanka conducted its National Pool selection trials for ISSF (International Sport Shooting Federation) Olympic events at Panagoda electronic range complex from 03 March 2009 to 09 April 2009.

Over 50 shooters participated in the trials and following records were established.

Veteran Olympic shooter E.M. Senanayake of Army Small Arms Association bettered his own Free Pistol record of 557/600 to 561/600.

SASC (South Asian Shooting Competition) Gold medalist Mangala Samarakoon of Army Small Arms Association beat his own record of three position event set earlier at Asian shooting championship, Kuwait (1137/1200 to 1147/1200) which is believed to be a good score to rate him as one of the strong contenders for the next level of sports shooting.
Having gone down in the women sports pistol events earlier due to weapon malfunction, the new comer Swarnakanthi De Silva of Army Small Arms Association bounced back to win the women’s Air pistol event by beating veteran Olympian Ruwani Abeymanne establishing a new Sri Lankan record. (378/400 to 379/400)

All these shooters are coached by Brigadier Kenneth Edema and trials were conducted by International Judges of ISSF, Mr Elmo Rodrigo and Mr Russell Gray.
