School of Artillery Welcomes Deputy Chief of Staff

Major General Sampath Kotuwegoda, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and Colonel Commandant, Sri Lanka Artillery after assumption of duties made his first visit to the School of Artillery at Minneriya on Saturday (23) to be greeted in a Guard Turnout and a subsequent Guard of Honour.

The visiting Chief Guest reviewed the honours presented by troops of the School of Artillery and accepted the Regimental salute in the Guard of Honour in conformity with military traditions.

Similarly, the Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery to be in line with the ‘Way Forward Strategy 2020 - 2025’ inaugurated the ‘Instructors’ in Gunnery 2021’ Seminar on the theme ‘The Requirement of Robust Futuristic Approach to Design a Strategic Way Forward for the SLA Regiment’ in order to compete with contemporary changes and forward-march of the Army to match with future needs.

Before the Chief Guest of the day inaugurated the Seminar, the visiting 36th Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army left memories of his visit by planting a sapling in the School premises before the seminar got underway.

The occasion also saw the visiting Deputy Chief of Staff was felicitated upon his elevation to the office of the Deputy Chief of Staff where a gathering of Senior Officers both serving and retired joined.

The Seminar on the inaugural day discussed research findings, presented by Officers in three syndicates, enabling Seminar attendees to contribute to fruitful follow-up discussions.

Major General Manjula Karunaratne (Rtd) on the first day during the Diners’ Club session delivered the guest speech at the Officers’ Mess where the day’s Chief Guest thanked the Commander Artillery Brigade and the Commandant of the School of Artillery and appreciated the arrangements, organized at the School of Artillery on his behalf and also the Seminar that paved way for enlightening discussions.

The day’s Chief Guest also sat for a group photograph with the participating Officers before the day’s proceedings ended.

Major General Sanjaya Wanasinghe, Major General Ajith Dissanayaka, Major General Wanditha Mahinkanda, Major General Shiran Abeysekera, Major General Ajith Kolambathantri, Major General Upali Gunasekera, Major General Saman Liyanage, Major General Lasantha Rodrigo and several Senior Gunner Officers joined the day’s arrangement where they too had the rare opportunity of sharing pleasantries.
