All ranks working in the Ranaviru Apparels (RVAPL) at Yakkala had their annual picnic to Kataragama and Embilipitiya areas during 20 - 21 September following guidelines, given by Major General Manjula Manatunga, Commandant, Ranaviru Apparels.

This year’s annual trip was launched with the objective of further promoting interpersonal relationships, cohesiveness, team-spirits, organizational skills, motivation and reducing stress and depression. The project is implemented every year as a welfare measure.

On the first day (20), picnickers worshipped Kirivehera and Kataragama shrines and took part in a special Kapruk Pooja at Kirivehera Dagoba. They offered ‘Gilanpasa’ and ‘Pirikara’ to the monks at the Kirivehera temple.

Afterwards, the participants joining traditional ‘Kawadi’ dancing and ‘Hevisi’ groups walked together up to the Devala premises and made offerings.

Meanwhile, those RVAPL participants organized a donation programme to provide books to students in the remote Gonaganara Maha Vidyalaya in Kataragama with the sponsorship, provided by RVAPL workers.

On the following day (21) morning, on their way back to Camp from Kataragama, participating troops stopped for a short while on the banks of Chandrika reservoir in Embilipitiya and enjoyed a bath with their colleagues, supervisors and managers at all levels, amid music provided by the RVAPL musicians.
