Retiring Two Star General Given Farewell at VIR RHQ

A felicitation ceremony was held to honour retiring Major General Sisira Herath, former Centre Commandant of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) who was promoted to the rank of Major General on 3 February 2021 retrospectively before his retirement on the National Independence Day.

To recognize his promotion and the subsequent retirement, a brief ceremony was organized on 03 February 2021 at the VIR Regimental Centre, headed by the Colonel of the Regiment of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Major General Sisira Pilapitiya, Staff Officers and Other Ranks of the Regiment.

Featuring the traditional event, Major General Sisira Herath reviewed the Guard Turnout and then offered floral tributes to fallen war heroes who made supreme sacrifice. All Officers present then posed for a photograph with the day’s protagonist and afterwards, he was awarded a special memento by the Colonel of the Regiment. He also appreciated Major General Sisira Herath's dedicated and committed service to become a Two Star General for Archers' Flag Officers family.

Further, he joined a special lunch at the Regimental Officers’ Mess on the same day plus a surprise birthday bash that coincided with the same day at “The Salute” multi-functional hall.
