Retiring Major General L.C.R Jayasuriya's Notable Services Commended

Major General L.C.R Jayasuriya RSP ndc psc, Colonel Commandant of Military Intelligence Corps and Rector, Southern Campus, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, prior to his retirement from the Army after a notable career of 34 years was invited this afternoon (17 Nov) to the office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, together with his family members.

During cordial interactions, the Army Chief appreciated the services of the retiring Senior Officer in different capacities and recalled memories in the battlefield and also in the post-war scenario. The Commander of the Army also inquired about his future plans, prospects and wished him good luck with his future endeavours.

While sharing a few pleasantries with the retiring Major General L.C.R Jayasuriya RSP ndc psc, the Commander of the Army did not forget to share a few words with his wife and son who were also present. He also did not fail to mention the support that the retiree’s family members have always extended to the outgoing officer in the performance of his challenging roles.

Major General L.C.R Jayasuriya RSP ndc psc, also in turn thanked the Commander of the Army for his wishes and able guidance while mentioning the encouragement he received during his tenure of service in the organization.

Towards the end of the interactions, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage awarded a special memento to the outgoing retiree as a symbol of appreciation and commendation along with a special gift to the family. The gesture was reciprocated by the retiring Senior Officer.

Here follows a brief profile of the retiring Senior Officer;

Major General L.C.R Jayasuriya RSP ndc psc was enlisted in the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet on 01 January 1989. Upon successful completion of military training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy - Diyatalawa and the Indian Military Academy (IMA), in Intake 31 - IMA, he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and posted to the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) on 05 October 1990. Subsequently, he was transferred to the Military Intelligence Corps (MIC). After being steadily elevated to subsequent ranks in the course of the span of service in the Army, he was promoted to the rank of Major General on 10 October 2021.

He has been holding the offices of the Colonel Commandant of Military Intelligence Corps and Rector Southern Campus, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University at the time of his retirement. He also held the appointments of Platoon Commander of 1 SLSR, Intelligence Officer of 1 SLSR, Aide-De-Camp to Late Major General G.P Kulathunga RSP USP, Officer Commanding of 1 SLSR, Officer Instructor of Officer Cadet Training Wing at Sri Lanka Military Academy, Adjutant of Officer Cadet Training Wing at Sri Lanka Military Academy, Directing Staff of Officers’ Study Centre at Sri Lanka Military Academy, General Staff Officer 2 (Operations/Training) of the 21 Infantry Division, General Staff Officer 2 (Registry & Research) of Directorate of Military Intelligence at Army Headquarters, General Staff Officer 1 of Directorate of Military Intelligence at Army Headquarters, Officiating Military Assistant of Army Headquarters, First Secretary of Sri Lanka Embassy in Paris, France, Commanding Officer of MIC, Colonel Intelligence of Directorate of Military Intelligence at Army Headquarters, Overlooking Director of Directorate of Military Intelligence at Army Headquarters, Officiating Commander of 653 Infantry Brigade, Senior Intelligence Coordinator of Office of the Chief of National Intelligence at Ministry of Defence, Director Military Intelligence of Directorate of Military Intelligence at Army Headquarters and Director General of Directorate of Military Intelligence at Army Headquarters.

For his bravery and gallantry in the battlefields, he has been awarded with ‘Rana Wickrama Padakkama’.

He has followed many local and foreign courses during his military career, such as Platoon Commanders' Tactics Course, Army Command and Staff Course, Pre-Commission Training Course - Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, India, Young Officers’ Infantry Course – Pakistan, Junior Command and Staff Course – Bangladesh, Senior Command Course – India and Defence and Strategic Studies Course – India.

The Senior Officer has also followed a number of higher educational and non-military courses, such as Master of Science in Security and Strategic Studies at General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University and Master of Philosophy in Defence and Strategic Studies at University of Madras, India.
