Retired Senior Officer’s Coordination Gets New Home for Deserving Woman in Karaveddy

Manpower and technical expertise of the 55 Division troops of the Security Force HQ-Jaffna and the patronage extended by a donor enabled the 551 Infantry Brigade troops to build a new house for a deserving family in Thunnalai (South), Karaveddy and vest it with the beneficiaries in the presence of Major General Prasanna Gunaratne, General Officer Commanding, 55 Infantry Division as the Chief Guest on 16 December.

Mrs Selvartnam Jeyappirata, who has been living under extremely difficult circumstances was the beneficiary of the new home, built by the troops. Major General Ravi Rathnasingham (Retd) coordinated the funds allocated to the Army by the Tamil Church of Living Savior in Canada.

Troops of the 16 Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry provided much-needed manpower and technical expertise for the construction work under the supervision of Brigadier Chinthaka Wickramasinghe, Commander, 551 Infantry Brigade under the guidance of the General Officer Commanding, 55 Infantry Division.

The day’s brief ceremony symbolically handed over the keys and concluded with distribution of dry ration packets to the beneficiaries by the Chief Guest.

Commanders of 551, 552 and 553 Infantry Brigades, Senior Officers, Mr N Jeganathan, Mr Kandeer Ponnayya, Vice Chairman, Karaveddy Pradeshiya Sabha, Mr E Thyaruban, Divisional Secretary, Karaveddy with state officials, other invitees and civilians participated in the warming ceremony.
