Retired Jaffna Soldier Laid to Rest Amid Military Salutes

The military funeral of Private Velupillai Amaranadan (Retd) who had served in the 1 Ceylon Light Infantry Regiment in 1955 - 1967, took place on Sunday (14 May) at Kudamiyan cemetery in Kodikamam, amid a mammoth gathering of military personnel and civilians in the area.

Troops of the 9 Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment of the 521 Infantry Brigade under the 52 Infantry Division in accordance with military traditions and directions of respective Commanding Officers in a military funeral saluted late Private Velupillai Amaranadan (Retd).

He passed away on Friday (12 May) at the age of 89 years after a brief illness. Decorations and medals he earned were presented to his next of kin during the military funeral.

Private Velupillai Amaranadan was born on 28th October 1934 and was residing at Kodikamam North Grama Niladhari Division before he was enlisted to the Sri Lanka Army on 04th July 1955. Upon enlistment, he was posted to the 1 Ceylon Light Infantry Regiment. Having completed 12 years of service in the Regular Force, he retired from service on 13 April 1967.
