Reputed Consultant Radiologist Retires amid Commander's Best Wishes

Major General S.H Munasinghe RWP RSP VSV USP of the Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps (SLAMC), Consultant Radiologist at the Colombo Army Hospital on the eve of his retirement was invited to the office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu on Wednesday (28), together with his spouse.

The Army Chief during the meeting with the retiree, praised him for his notable service and performance of his diverse responsibilities with dedicated commitment and selflessness to the Army as well as to the country in general as a medical expert. He also refreshed memories of the retiree’s invaluable sacrifices and roles during the height of the war against terrorism as an eminent Medical Officer before May 2009 with the vowed determination to save precious lives of injured War Heroes.

The Army Chief also praised him for his untiring commitment for promotion of health prospects among thousands of serving and retired soldiers during his noteworthy career in the Army spanning for more than 37 years.

Major General S.H Munasinghe RWP RSP VSV USP, having served the Army for more than 37 years in return thanked the Army Commander for the invitation and expressed his gratitude for the guidance the Commander extended to him all the time in the performance of his duties as a Medical Officer.

The Army Chief while sharing few pleasantries with his spouse invited to the occasion also inquired into the retiring Senior Officer’s future endeavours and plans. The Army Chief simultaneously commended the invaluable support that has been given to the Senior Officer by his spouse, herself a Medical Consultant throughout his service particularly while the retiring Senior Officer was attending to the injured Army personnel during operations to safeguard the motherland.

Towards the end of the interactions, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage awarded a special memento to the retiring General S.H Munasinghe RWP RSP VSV USP as a symbol of appreciation and commendation along with a special gift to the spouse.

Major General S.H Munasinghe RWP RSP VSV USP joined the Sri Lanka Army on 28 December 1986 as a direct enlisted Officer. He was commissioned in the rank of Captain and afterwards posted to the Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps. He was promoted to the rank of Major General on 27 June 2011.

He has been holding the appointment of Consultant Radiologist in Colombo Army Hospital at the time of his retirement. He also held the appointments of Medical Officer of 3rd Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry, Medical Officer of North Command- Palali, Medical Officer of Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna), Medical Officer of Area Headquarters - Ampara, Medical Officer of 21 Infantry Division, Anuradhapura, Medical Officer of Area Headquarters - Wanni, Officer Commanding of X-Ray Department Army Hospital (Colombo), Second-in-Command of the Army Hospital (Colombo), Commanding Officer of the Army Hospital (Colombo), Director, Directorate of Army Medical Services, Medical Advisor to the Commander of the Army, Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps and the Director General of Army Health Services.

The Senior Officer who is a Military Medicine professional of repute made a significant contribution to the war against terrorism and played a leading role in the battlefield in treating casualties despite life threats during major military operations including the Humanitarian Operations. For his bravery and gallantry in the battlefields as a Medical Officer, he has been awarded the 'Rana Wikcrama Padakkama’ and the ‘Rana Sura Padakkama’.

He also served the country as Secretary to Ministry of Health during 2020-2022.
