Award of Rana Sura Padakkama (RSP) to remaining other ranks of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) took place during a ceremony at VIR Regimental Headquarters at Boyagane, Kurunegala on Wednesday (21), headed by Major General R.V Samaratunge, Colonel of the Regiment, VIR.
A total of 256 officers and other ranks, some of who have made the supreme sacrifice or become disable during fighting against terrorism, were nominated for these Gallantry Awards, some of which were earlier given away by HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces during the recent inaugural ceremony.
The occasion, attended by more than 600 relatives of those officers and other serving officers, commenced amid religious ceremonies of major denominations and commemoration of fallen War Heroes at the VIR war memorial.
