Redesignated 10 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment Welcomed at Regimental HQ

The customary flag-awarding ceremony of the re-designated 10th Battalion of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) which has hitherto remained as 2 Mechanized Infantry Regiment due to operational requirements since 04 February 2007 got underway at the SLSR Regimental Headquarters in Ambepussa on Friday (02) morning where Major General Priyantha Jayawardene, Colonel of the Regiment, SLSR and Quarter Master General at the Army HQ attended as the Chief Guest.

The Chief Guest was welcomed by Lieutenant Colonel Sanjeewa Dissanayake, General Staff Officer 1, Regimental Centre, SLSR at the entrance to the Regimental Headquarters and invited to review the Guard Turnout, presented by 10 SLSR troops.

Adhering to ceremonials, the Colonel of the Regiment was ushered to the saluting dais to receive the General’s salute of the parade by Colonel Wajira Amarasiri, Deputy Centre Commandant, Regimental Centre, SLSR.

Afterwards, Major General Priyantha Jayawardene handed over the 10 SLSR flag to the Commanding Officer, Major Sampath Nallaperuma adding honour and pride to military formalities.

Senior Serving Officers of former 10 SLSR, Commanding Officers, Staff Officers of Regimental Centre, SLSR and Other Ranks were participated for the event.

The 10th Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, raised on 23 January 1994 rendered its service to safeguard the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the motherland during operations against LTTE terrorism. This battalion was converted to be the 2 Mechanized Infantry Regiment on 04 February 2007 due to operational requirements and was squeezed from the Battalion list of the SLSR. The re-designation of 10th battalion was authorized in a special Army Order while suppressing the junior most battalion (24 SLSR) of the SLSR.
