24 Division troops of the Security Force HQ-East, in a mega relief project with the patronage of Ven Agulugamuwe Ariyananda Thero, Incumbent at Na-Uyana Aranya Senasana, and the committee members of Na-Uyana Buddhist Laymen's Association coordinated the distribution of dry rations and stationeries among 2000 low-income group families in Ampara area on 20 August.
The General Officer Commanding 24 Division Major General Saliya Amunugama in combination with 241 and 242 Brigades made the project a success. Major General Priyantha Jayawardena, Commander Security Forces-East, graced as the Chief Guest of the main segment of the event, held at Deegawapiya Temple premises.
Meanwhile, three concurrently assembled gatherings of needy families of all major communities, Tamil, Sinhala, and Muslims at the Deegawapiya Sinhala School, Deegawapiya Pariwara Chaiththiya premises and Lahugala District Secretariat Conference Hall received dry ration parcels and packs of stationeries under the project. Around 200 pregnant women were also among beneficiaries of those dry rations.
400 identified school children, selected from the low-income families of Deegawapiya and Neelagiriya areas received stationeries to the value of Rs: 5000/= each. and the total value of all essentials exceeded Rs 10 m.
