RDHS Jaffna Commends Army for Generosity &;amp; Thoughtfulness

The donation of 36 new hospital beds to the office of the Regional Director of Health Services, Jaffna by Security Forces Headquarters,  Jaffna (SF HQ – J) last Friday (29), came in for lavish commendation of medical authorities since the donation would  ease the congestion for beds in Thellippalai, Chavakachcheri, Kayts and Point Pedro peripheral hospitals. 

The donation, organized by Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander, Security Forces Jaffna after reaching out to his close friends, resident in Australia, is worth some Rs. 2 million and includes 7 surgical beds that can be used in Intensive Care Units (ICUs). The simple ceremony for delivery of these beds took place at the   Civil Affairs and Public Relations Office, Jaffna. The beds were distributed among Medical Superintendents in Thellippalai, Chavakachcheri, Kayts and Point Pedro hospitals at the same occasion.

In a brief address to the occasion acknowledging the donation, Dr. A. Ketheeswaran, Regional Director Health Services, Jaffna hailed the SFHQ – J and thanked them for their thoughtfulness.

 "It is a great pleasure to receive a donation of this nature from the SF HQ - J and we thank the Security Forces Commander and his staff for their commitment to uplift the medical standard of the peninsula. The Army’s contribution in Dengue control program and renovation of hospital buildings for accommodating more people after return of IDPs is also praise worthy”, he said.

Major General Hathurusinghe in his oration thanked his friends abroad who had formed the charity organization, named "Lak Saviya Foundation", in Australia for the express purpose of helping Sri Lankans in the peninsula as well as in other areas.

He recalled how the organization ‘Lak Saviya Foundation’ responded to his humanitarian request on behalf of the needy Jaffna community and acknowledged their positive and instant gesture of goodwill.

He also made a special mention of the co-operation given by Director General Health Services Dr Ajith Mendis for timely clearance of the stock of beds for distribution.

District Secretary for Jaffna Mrs. Imelda Sugumar, General Officer Commanding 51 Division Major General Janaka Walgama, Brigadier General Staff SF HQ - J Brigadier B.C.J.A.F. Rodrigo, Principal, Jaffna Nurses' Training School, medical officers and nurses from respective recipients attended the function.
