Pubudugama Marshy Land Fire Brought under Control

A contingent of Army personnel belonging to the 8 Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry of the 141 Brigade of the 14 Division under the Security Force HQ - West early morning on Friday (26) lent their active support to contain a fast-spreading bush-fire in Muthurajawela Wetlands Forest Reserve at general area of Pubudugama in the Wattala Divisional Secretariat in collaboration with the Navy, Disaster Management Centre at Gampaha and the Divisional Secretariat Wattala.

As per guidelines given by the Commander, Security Forces-West, Major General Deepal Pussella, troops got down a water bowser, 2 fire brigade trucks, and two helicopters from the Air Force for the task as the fires were fast spreading. Officials at the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) Gampaha and Divisional Secretariat Wattala also provided their maximum support to bring the fire under control.

Although the bush fire continued burning at a low scale until the following day (27) morning, it was completely extinguished by the troops, the same evening. It has caused damage to about 80 acres of the entire land.
