Public Urged to Strictly Follow Health Guidelines - Head NOCPCO

Renewing his appeal to the public, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Head of the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army addressed the Media at the NOCPCO this afternoon (14) and reminded the public of the importance of sustained adherence to strict health guidelines as more and more cluster contacts are traced and identified.

Explaining the series of operational mechanisms in place, he pointed out all troops, epidemiologists, PHIs and health officials, engaged in COVID-19 duties have been able to screen associates and movements of the Minuwangoda garment factory clusters. Steps were taken to confine them to Quarantine Centres or own houses for quarantining in coordination with respective PHIs and findings confirm that all of those associates had some kind of relationship with the infected in the factory. All first contacts and second contacts of positive cases have already been identified, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said.

The quarantine curfew will continue to be imposed in areas depending on developments and sheer necessity causing least inconvenience to the general public. Public support to our health workers is very much appreciated and commended since such gestures motivate them, he added.
