Promoted Senior Brigadiers Get Rank Insignia & Piece of Advice from Army Chief

Seven more Senior Brigadiers of the Army, just promoted to the rank of Major General in parallel with the historic 74th National Independence Day this afternoon (3) called at the office of General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army at Sri Jayawardenepura in order to receive their rank insignia and the Commander's best wishes.

Seven Senior Brigadiers thus promoted to their next rank include Major General Deepal Hathurusingha of Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers , Director General Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Major General Mahendra Fernando of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Secretary National Defence College, Major General K.A.A Udayakumara of Corps of Engineers, Director General Personal Administration, Major General Lal Wijethunga of Gajaba Regiment, Overall Security Coordinator Army Headquarters, Major General Chanaka Meththananada of Sri Lanka Army General Service Crops, Major General Samantha Wickramasena of Sri Lanka Light Infantry, General Officer Commanding 52 Division, Major General Nalinda Niyangoda of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps Commandant Sri Lanka Military Academy.

General Shavendra Silva extending congratulations, greetings and best wishes to all seven of them separately pinned their new Major General insignia afterwards and handed over the symbolic sword of authority to each of them.

Giving a piece of advice, General Shavendra Silva told the group of seven new rankers that elevation to this prestigious two-star rank is reflective of their hard work, dedication and sustained performance of high quality throughout your ladder of command.

" This bonanza of promotion is awarded not only based on your seniority or being a batch top or not alone, but also considering your dedicated commitment in the battlefield and to Humanitarian Operations before May 2009, demanding duty roles, how best you performed responsibilities as Commanders, Instructors, Directors, Staff Duties, etc. This 'Major General' rank, being one of the highest gestures of recognition in the career should be maintained with its due dignity, recognition and responsibility since only the capable are able to reach this rank, " General Shavendra Silva added.
