Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, the Commander of the Army, spearheaded the preliminary conference to discuss the preparations for the National Vesak Festival 2024, on 03 May 2024 at Anuruda Arana temple in Matale. Members of the Maha Sangha joined this gathering to discuss the Army's role and commitments for the festival scheduled from 23 to 30 May 2024.
The National Vesak Festival, attracts locals and tourists, fostering a spiritual and cultural aura across the island.
The preliminary conference fostered constructive dialogue between the Army Chief and the members of Maha Sangha regarding importance of preserving spiritual essence of the Vesak festival amidst modernity. Discussions encompassed logistic support, security arrangements and proactive measures to ensure smooth festival experience.
The Army Chief reaffirmed the military commitment to the Vesak Festival's smooth conduct, addressing potential challenges. Ven Mugunuwela Anuruddha Thero, Incumbent of Anurudha Arana, Major General R.M.M Ranasinghe WWV RWP RSP, General Officer Commanding of the 11 Infantry Division, Senior Officers of 11 Infantry Division participated in the conference.
