A large stock of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) gifted to General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army by US-based expatriates and organizations were subsequently distributed among 25 island-wide state hospitals after the stock was delivered to the Colombo Army Hospital by the President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs Sujeewa Nelson a few days ago.
Accordingly, the Security Force Headquarters - Central gave away respective stocks to the Nuwara Eliya District Hospital, 12 Division HQ to the Provincial Hospital at Ambalantota, 23 Division HQ to the Base Hospital at Hingurakgoda, 14 Division HQ to the Dengue Prevention Unit at Narahenpita, 61 Division HQ to the Regional Director of Health Services in Galle District, 24 Division HQ to the Deputy Regional Director of Health Services at Kalmunai and Regional Director of Health Services at Ampara, 57 Division HQ to the District Hospital at Kilinochchi, 59 Division HQ to the District Hospital at Mullaittivu, 54 Division HQ to the Regional Director of Health Services in Mannar District, 56 Division HQ to the General Hospital at Vavuniya, 21 Division HQ to the Base Hospital at Kekirawa, 22 Division HQ to the General Hospital at Trincomalee, 11 Division HQ to the Regional Medical Supply Division at Kandy, 58 Division HQ to the General Hospital at Puttalam,, 51 Division HQ to the Teaching Hospital at Jaffna, 112 Brigade HQ to the General Hospital at Badulla, 611 Brigade HQ to the General Hospital at Kegalle, Gemunu Watch Regimental Headquarters to the Sabaragamu Province Director of Health Services, 583 Brigade HQ to the Teaching Hospital at Kurunegala, 111 Brigade HQ to the General Hospital at Matale, 613 Brigade HQ to the Regional Director of Health Services at Matara, 141 Brigade HQ to the General Hospital at Gampaha, Divisional Hospital at Divulapitiya, Base Hospital at Dompe and the Base Hospital at Udupila, 121 Brigade HQ to the Base Hospital at Bibila , 582 Brigade HQ to the General Hospital at Kalutara, 231 Brigade HQ to the Base Hospital at Kattankudy and Teaching Hospital at Batticaloa and the Colombo Army Hospital at Narahenpita.
The stock, gifted jointly by the Sri Lanka Association of the US, Midwest and MedSurplus United with the Johns Hopkins Healthcare Systems in the US, worth about US $ 200,000 was personally sent to General Shavendra Silva by those donors as a gesture of appreciation of the efforts, being made by the Army for control of COVID 19 epidemic, particularly considering his contribution as then Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID 19 Outbreak (NOCPCO).
In less than five days after the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) handed over the consignment of PPE to the Colombo Army Hospital on Monday (3), the Army on the directions of General Shavendra Silva in turn through the coordination of the Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka and the Army Medical Corps (SLAMC) took steps to send the stocks to respective Army establishments for onward delivery to island-wide hospitals.
