Phase-1 in Graduate Training Course Ends in Closing Ceremonies

The Army-initiated ‘Leadership and Motivation’ training programme for 50,000 newly-recruited graduates, implemented under five phases successfully completed its first phase of 10,000 graduates on Saturday (03) in 51 island-wide Army Centers, including Security Force HQs, Regimental HQs, Training Schools and Battalions consequent upon guidance given by Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army.

The leadership and motivation programme launched under independent but inter-related modules by way of lectures, discussions, outdoor training activities, team building activities, study tours, capability studies and field studies is expected to energize the public sector contribution in a dynamic way.

Army Training Establishments, University Grant Commission, Ministry of Home Affairs, Selected State & Private Sectors and a few more state agencies work closely with the project The Army Headquarters also liaised with the Presidential Secretariat and the Ministry of Defence to obtain strategic guidance for the conceptualization of this graduate training programme throughout all those five months. The liaison for the training programme is provided by the Directorate of Training at the Army Headquarters with all stakeholders at various levels.

During the Phase 1, 8554 graduates followed the training in island-wide 51 training centres at Security Forces - Jaffna (200 female Tamil graduates), Security Forces - Wanni (2550 graduates) followed the training including 250 males, 2300 females. In addition, Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim clergies followed the training. Under the Security Forces - East (2720 graduates) including 1160 males and 1560 females of Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim ethnicity. Security Forces - Kilinochchi (277 Tamil graduates) trained 131 males and 146 females while the Security Forces Mullaittivu had 131 graduates (62 males 34 females). The Security Forces - West had 3226 graduates (345 males and 2891 females). The Security Forces - Central had 943 graduates including 191 males and 752 females of all ethnicity. Among them were physically-handicapped, pregnant and matured candidates.

The Security Forces Commanders, Officers in charge of respective training establishments attended the closing ceremonies of this Phase 1 where graduates staged cultural and entertaining features before they received certificates of training. Sportswear Design | Nike Shoes, Sneakers & Accessories
