Patriotic Jaffna Soldier Laid to Rest amidst Military Honours

A soldier who joined the Army from Jaffna and served the motherland for more than eight years as a dedicated soldier in the 2 Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) passed away after a brief illness while on duty and was laid to rest with full military honours at Achchuveli Cemetery on Friday (4) amidst his workmates, parents and relatives.

Private N. Vivek of Muthumari Amman Kovilladi area in Atchchuveli died on Thursday (3) after a brief illness while on service after having joined the Army in 2014. During his service, this patriotic soldier won hearts and minds of his comrades as well as his peers. Earlier, he served the 7th Battalion of the Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers before he joined the 2 SLEME.

The military funeral with honours was organized on the guidelines given by Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna in close coordination with the Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Regiment and its 4th Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers serving the peninsula.

After the funeral procession carrying remains of late Private N. Vivek reached the Atchchuveli cemetery premises, the troops after the customary salute took charge of the coffin and laid it on the gun carriage before being placed on the pyre in accordance with Hindu rites.

Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna who also took part in the funeral with several Senior Officers afterwards met the parents and relatives of the late soldier and condoled on his untimely death.
