Collective sponsorship of Sri Lankan Well Wishers in Adelaide, members of “Wellbeing SA Inc” and retired Sri Lanka Engineers in South Australia enabled 17 (V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) troops of the 651 Brigade under command to the 65 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - Wannni (SFHQ-W) to build one more house for a needy family in Uyilankulam as one more CIMIC project.
The project was initiated under the direction of the General Officer Commanding of the 65 Division, Major General Anil Samarasiri and was coordinated by the Commander, 651 Brigade, Brigadier Wasantha Bandara. The Commanding Officer of 17 (v) SLLI, Lieutenant Colonel A.A.N. D. Athurugiri closely supervised the construction work, and the troops of 17 (V) SLLI provided much-needed technical and engineering manpower for the construction.
At the request of the Commander, 651 Brigade, Brigadier Wasntha Bandara, those overseas donors came forward to sponsor the project.
The simple house-warming ceremony was held on Thursday (26) where Major General Anil Samarasiri graced the inauguration as the Chief Guest.
Major General Anil Samarasiri, General Officer Commanding, 65 Division, Commander, 651 Brigade, Brigadier Wasantha Bandara, Commanding Officer, 17(V) SLLI, Lieutenant Colonel A.A.N.D. Athurugiriya, Senior Officers, family members and the troops who contributed skills for the construction participated in the simple ceremony where the set of keys, along with some gift items were delivered to the beneficiary who is undergoing economic hardships and was without a shelter for her and family members.
