Old Anandians (1975-1980) Build School Requirements & Donate Accessories

A group of Old Anandians (1975-1980 batch) from Colombo Ananda College, considering much-wanted needs of the students at Kallar Somapura Maha Vidyalaya in Trincomalee recently built a new IT laboratory, library and a shrine in the school compound and donated a large consignment of musical instruments, school accessories, library books, exercise books and other paraphernalia.

The initiative, mooted by 22 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) troops of the 22 Division Headquarters of the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) several months ago when the incumbent Commander of the Army, himself a member of the same Old Anandians group was serving as the Chief of Staff, cost the donors more than Rs 7 lakhs.

The ceremony to open those new constructions and give away incentives to students got underway on 8 October during a simple ceremony, attended by Brigadier Sumith Premalal, 221 Brigade Commander together with a representative group of Old Anandians, the donors.

Those requirements at the beginning were brought to the notice of the Colonel Deepal Pussella, Brigade Commander, 222 Brigade by the Principal at Somapura Maha Vidyalaya before the Commander of the Army requested the Old Anandians to assist in this regard.

A brief religious ceremony, performed by members of the Maha Sangha invoked blessings on the inauguration of those new constructions in the school premises before the donation programme commenced.

Members of the Old Anandians Group, Brigade Commanders of 221 and 222 Brigades, several Senior Officers, teachers, students and parents were also associated with the day’s ceremony.
