Officer Cadets at SLMA Qualify in Riding & Driving on Commander's Instructions

The Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) at Diyatalawa, the premier seat of learning for Officer Cadets in the Army after re-inducting the competence of riding and driving to the SLMA curriculum in collaboration with the Directorate of Supply and Transport, to be in line with the aspirations of the Commander of the Army to groom fully-pledged young Officer Cadets, awarded certificates of riding and driving competence to 107 more Officer Cadets, now set to pass out on Friday (4).

The 2nd riding and driving course, conducted by the Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (SLASC) Driving School which boasts a history of more than 66 years at the request of Brigadier Hirosha Wanigasekera, Director Supply and Transport was re-inducted after absence of about 32 years. The SLMA’s 1st Riding and Driving Course for Officer Cadets culminated in December 2019.

At the invitation of Brigadier Krishantha Gnanarathna Commandant, SLMA, Brigadier Hirosha Wanigasekera, Director Supply and Transport as the Chief Guest awarded those competence certificates to those Officer Cadets who qualified in Riding and Driving during a brief ceremony, held at the SLMA on Friday (4) in keeping with health precautions.

The Riding and Driving Course consists of lectures, practical motorbike and light vehicle training sessions and they were trained by a team of trainers of the 9 (v) SLASC under the guidance of the Commanding Officer of the 9 SLASC. In his brief address to the awarding ceremony, Brigadier Hirosha Wanigasekera, Director, Supply and Transport recalled memories on conduct of riding lessons during 1987-1988 period and how operational commitments in the battlefield prevented the Directorate of Supply and Transport from continuing the practice. Possession of a valid driving license plus the riding and driving ability with confidence therefore would serve an added qualification to Officer Cadets whether it is peacetime, emergencies or otherwise in the battlefield as world-wide armies consider this as an essential prerequisite for recruitment, the occasion was told.

Commandant SLMA, Academic Staff and Officers from the Directorate of Supply and Transport participated in the awarding ceremony. Nike sneakers | Buy online Sneaker for Men
