64 Infantry Division troops under the Security Force HQ - Mullaitivu held a mobile eye clinic and distributed a stock of free spectacles among poverty-stricken Oddusudan locals through the collaboration of George Gooneratne Optometrists on Sunday (July 02) at the Oddusudan National School auditorium at the request of the Army.
The project, organized by the troops was initiated following a conceptual guidance given by Major General H.D.W.K.N Eriyagama RWP RSP, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 64 Infantry Division. During the event, those optometrists examined civilians' eye sights and donated 200 free spectacles to the value of more than Rs. 3,60,000/=.
The GOC of the 64 Infantry Division, together with Mr Lakshman Abegunerathne, Managing Director of George Gooneratne Optometrists graced the occasion as special guests. Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and a large crowd of locals participated in the event.
