Now, 241 Brigade Relieves Economic Burdens of Civilians & Students

Kind sponsorship extended to the 241 Brigade troops of the 24 Division under the Security Force Headquarters - East by Miss Kanishka Peellawaththa, Miss Shashikala and their friends enabled the troops to distribute a large consignment of dry ration packs among civilians and school accessories among students in the general area of Piyasaragama, Ampara on Saturday (16).

After inviting most deserving families and students to the Sri Sambodhi Temple at Piyasargama, 80 dry ration packs, each worth Rs 5500/= with Rs 600/= in cash were distributed among the worst-affected in the area during arrangements, organized by 16 Sri Lanka National Guard troops of the 241 Brigade.

In addition, a consignment of school accessories and essentials, to the value of Rs 181,000/= were also given away among 87 school students on the same occasion in order to encourage them for studies. Towards the end of the donation programme, those philanthropists donated a sum of Rs 50,000/= for the development of the Sri Sambodhi temple where the distribution programme got underway.

The project was launched under the direct supervision of the General Officer Commanding, 24 Division, Major General Saliya Amunugama who also attended the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Brigadier Chandra Abeykoon, Commander, 241 Brigade closely supervised the programme and instructed the Commanding Officer, 16 Sri Lanka National Guard to screen the deserving categories in consultation with Grama Seva officials and other relevant school authorities.
