Newly-Appointed SF - East Commander Undertakes Formal Visits to under Command Divisions

The newly-appointed Commander of the Security Forces - East, Major General Sujeewa Hettiarachchi made his maiden visits to the 22 Infantry Division, 23 Infantry Division and the 24 infantry Division under the SFHQ-East during 15-18 November.

Major General Saliya Amunugama, General Officer Commanding, 22 Infantry Division, Major General Shewanth Kulathunga, General Officer Commanding, 23 Infantry Division and Major General Wajira Welagedara, General Officer Commanding, 24 Division separately extended warm receptions to him on arrival at their specific HQs.

Separate Guard Turnouts in keeping with military traditions at the main entrances of Divisions saluted the visiting Commander. At both places, comprehensive briefings were presented by the GOCs and Staff Officers of the Divisions, focused on the role and tasks, security, development work and areas of responsibility.

Afterward, the new East Commander addressed those troops and emphasized the need for continued professional training and good work while maintaining the highest standards of discipline at all levels. Moreover, East Commander highlighted the importance of the promotion of agriculture and cultivation sector within the areas of responsibility.

Customary troop addresses followed invitations to plant saplings as symbols of memory inside respective camp premises and he posed for group photographs with Officers serving the Divisions. The 23 Infantry Division visit reached its culmination after an all-rank tea.

The visit to the 22 Infantry Division ended after a field visit to the proposed 17 Sri Lanka National Guard Headquarters under construction at Kumburupiddi, followed by a lunch to the visiting Commander, Security Forces - East. All Senior Officers were present during those visits.

After the visit to the 24 Infantry Division, Major General Sujeewa Hettiarachchi visited Buddangala Rajamaha Viharaya. Subsequently, he undertook visits to Deegawapiya Rajamaha Viharaya to see the construction work in progress.
