Newly Appointed Defence Attaché of the Embassy of German Call on Army Chief

Colonel Klaus Merkel, the newly appointed Defence Attaché of the Embassy of Germany accredited to India, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, currently based in New Delhi, India along with Lieutenant Colonel André Niedhoefer, Deputy Defence Attaché, paid a courtesy call on Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army, at the Army Headquarters on 05 February 2024.

The Commander of the Army extended his best wishes to the newly appointed Defence Attaché. During their cordial and interactive meeting, both parties exchanged views on matters of mutual concern, recalling the longstanding bonds of goodwill, cooperation and understanding between the Armed Forces of both nations.

Furthermore, they discussed potential avenues for enhancing training programmes for the Sri Lanka Army personnel and explored the possibility of increased participation in various exchange programmes between the Armed Forces of two countries.

As a gesture of goodwill, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage presented Colonel Klaus Merkel and Lieutenant Colonel André Niedhoefer with mementoes before the conclusion of the meeting. The gesture was reciprocated.
