New Year Musical Fiesta Staged at Panagoda

Bringing the festivities connected to the Sri Lanka Army Sinhala and Tamil New Year festival held at Panagoda on Monday (10) to a climax, a musical fiesta, organized by the Security Force HQ - West, under the guidance of Commander of the Army, opened the stage for budding Army vocalists and a couple of popular artistes.

The ‘Ranaviru Fiesta 2023’ backed by the Sri Lanka Army beat group, together with the Sri Lanka Army Service Corps beat group mesmerized the audience in the presence of Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

The day’s Chief Guest, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army was warmly received and accompanied to the location by Major General C.D Weerasuriya RWP RSP ndu, Chief of Staff, Major General D.G.S Senarath Yapa RWP RSP ndu, Deputy Chief of Staff, together with Major General D.M.K.D.B Pussella RWP RSP, Commander, Security Forces - West.

During the musical evening, the Commander of the Army presented trophies, certificates and awards to the winners in the SFHQ-West-organized Commander’s Challenge Trophy Volleyball Tournament - 2023. Accordingly, the SFHQ-West volleyball team who won the tournament received the championship trophy from the day’s Chief Guest. The 143 Infantry Brigade team emerged as the runners-up and received appreciative prizes.

The ‘Ranaviru Fiesta 2023’ became a reality on a suggestion made by Major General D.M.K.D.B Pussella RWP RSP, Commander, Security Forces - West and all the troops serving under the Divisions, Brigades, Battalions and the Security Force HQ – West contributed to the success of the event. It was meant to further stimulate aesthetic talents and singing skills of soldiers of the Army.
