New State Minister of Defence Assumes Office

Hon. Prof G.L Peiris, the newly-appointed State Minister of Defence this morning (19) assumed duties in his new office at the Ministry of Defence during a simple inaugural ceremony.

The brief inauguration commenced soon after religious observances got underway upon the Minister’s arrival at the Ministry of Defence complex at Sri Jayawardenepura. General Kamal Gunaratne (Retd), Defence Secretary, together with the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, General Shavendra Silva and Senior Ministry officials welcomed the new State Minister of Defence.

Soon after the inauguration, Hon. Prof G.L Peiris received an introductory briefing from the Secretary Defence at the conference hall where the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Navy and Air Force Commanders, Director General Civil Security Department, Additional Secretaries at the Ministry of Defence and State Ministry of Defence and several Senior Officers were present.
