Major General M.K Jayawardena RSP VSV USP ndu assumed duties as the 54th Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) on 01 January 2024 at the Headquarters of the Volunteer Force amidst formal military formalities.
On his arrival, the newly appointed Commandant was received by the Deputy Commandant of the SLAVF. After reviewing the Guard Turnout, the Commandant saluted the fallen war heroes at the memorial of late Captain Saliya Aladeniya PWV before reviewing the Guard of Honour in honour of the Commandant by the troops of the Sri Lanka National Guard.
After a while, amidst religious blessings, Major General M.K Jayawardena RSP VSV USP ndu placed his signature on an official document, symbolizing the formal acceptance of the office on his new appointment.
Following this, Major General M.K Jayawardena RSP VSV USP ndu graced the first working day in the New Year-2024 with the customary flag-raising, reading of the state allegiance oath, recital of the national anthem and the Army song, and reading the Commander's New Year message.
Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks attended the occasion and extended their best wishes to new Commandant upon taking over the duties, along with New Year compliments.
