New SF-East Commander Begins Duties

Major General Sujeewa Hettiarachchi of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment assumed office as the new Commander, Security Forces - East on Monday (14) during a simple ceremony at the Security Force HQ - East (SFHQ-East) at Welikanda.

A Guard Turnout plus a Guard of Honour saluted him soon after he arrived at the premises in accordance with military formalities before he participated in religious observances of the Buddhist faith in the company of Senior Officers.

As members of the Maha Sangha commenced chanting ‘Seth Pirith’ invoking blessings on his new appointment, Major General Sujeewa Hettiarachchi placed his signature for an official document, signifying the acceptance of his new office. Giving symbolic importance to the day, the new Commander afterwards was invited to plant a sapling in the camp premises.

Setting out his scope of work and duties, Major General Sujeewa Hettiarachchi spoke to the troops as a formality and outlined the importance of working as a team for the prosperity of the country and the promotion of the Army image.

General Officers Commanding, 22, 23, and 24 Infantry Divisions, Brigade Commanders, Senior Staff Officers, Staff Officers of the SFHQ - E, Commanding Officers and Other Ranks participated in the brief inaugural event.
