New SF-East Commander Assumes Duties

Major General Priyantha Jayawardane of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment assumed office as the 23rd Commander, Security Forces - East at his office at Welikanda on Friday (6) during a simple ceremony.

A Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour soon after his arrival at the premises greeted him in accordance with military traditions before he participated in religious observances of Buddhist faith in the company of several Senior Officers at his new office.

Afterwards, Major General Priyantha Jayawardane addressed the Officers and Other Ranks outlined the importance of working as a team for the progress of the organization while promoting its image.

Commander, Forward Maintenance Area - East, General Officers Commanding in Divisions, Brigade Commanders and Senior Officers, together with a representative group of Other Ranks joined the inauguration of his new office.

Before this new appointment, General Priyantha Jayawardane served as the General Officer Commanding of the 57 Division in Kilinochchi under the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu.

He succeeds Major General Lal Chandrasiri who just retired from the Army.
