New MS, Major General Ajith Wijesinghe Assumes Duties

Major General Ajith Wijesinghe of the Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC) took over duties as the new Military Secretary (MS) on Thursday (12) amid religious observances and greetings.

The new MS lit the traditional oil lamp and symbolically signed the first official document, signifying the acceptance of the new appointment in the presence of many Senior Officers.

Later on, the new MS had a friendly interaction with Staff Officers and Other Ranks in the MS Branch and received a firsthand account of the Secretariat’s roles.

He is also the Colonel Commandant of the SLSC and has been serving as the Chief Signal Officer (CSO) at the Army Headquarters before he was appointed to this prestigious appointment.

He succeeds Major General Priyantha Jayasundara who is to retire from the Army shortly after a distinguished career.

Major General Ajith Wijesinghe upon successful completion of his primary education at Kegalle College, Kegalle, joined the Army as an Officer Cadet in the Intake 20 on 18 January 1985 and completed his basic military training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy before he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on 31 May 1986.

Major General Ajith Wijesinghe with his 32 plus years of loyal military service, has served various Command, Staff and Instructional appointments in the Corps of Signals as well as in the Sri Lanka Army.

Several Principal Staff Officers, Directors, Senior Officers, Staff Officers and Other Ranks were there to extend best wishes to the new MS at the Army Headquarters.
