New Military Secretary Assumes Duties

MAJOR General A.W.J Chryshantha De Silva assumed duties on Friday (January 1st) as new Military Secretary in the Army. He succeeds Major General Milinda Peiris who is to continue as the Vice Chancellor at the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University Sri Lanka, Kandawala, Ratmalana.

Major General De Silva of Sri Lanka Engineers Regiment lit the traditional oil lamp at his new office and attended to religious observances, performed by members of the Maha Sangha. Afterwards, Major General De Silva symbolically initialed an official document and signified the acceptance of his new appointment as members of the Maha Sangha present chanted Seth Pirith (blessings).

Several senior officers attended the brief ceremony.

Major General A.W.J.C. De Silva joined the Sri Lanka Army on 06th February 1980 as an Officer Cadet and was commissioned as a 2/Lieutenant attached to Sri Lanka Engineers on 18th July 1981. Among the important appointments he held so far during his military career included Commandant SLEME training school Embilipitiya, Commander 562 and 512 Brigades, Assistant Military Secretary at Army Headquarters (AHQ), Director Operations and Director Plans at AHQ and Commander Forward Maintenance Area, Wanni. He was also invited for Asia Pacific Seminar in Malaysia in the year 2001 and was one of the delegates among military delegation who visited China in 2008.
