THE FAMILY of late War Hero Lance Corporal G.K.M.S.S. Bandara of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) was overjoyed when their relative’s next of kin received an invaluable gift by way of a new house for the family.
Following an initiative taken by Major General J.C. Rambukpotha, Commander, Security Forces, East (SFHQ-E), many sponsors assisted the SFHQ-E for the construction of this new house for the War Hero’s family. The house was gifted to the family on 16th January 2010 during a simple ceremony.
Lance Corporal Bandara sacrificed his life while safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of his motherland during the last phase of the Humanitarian Operations at Puthukuduiruppu on 17th March 2009.
The plot of land to construct the house was donated by Ven Divlankadawa Dheerananda Thero, Chief Incumbent at Habarana Rajamaha Viharaya. Well-wishers in the area provided financial support for the construction. Hard working soldiers of the 22 Division under the guidance and supervision of General Officer Commanding 22 Division Major General P.P. De Silva contributed labour to the construction of the house.
