New Home, Built with Joint DVA & SLSR Funds Inaugurated at Punewa

Financial grants jointly provided by the Directorate of Veterans Affairs (DVA) at the Army HQ and the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) Regimental HQ enabled 15 SLSR troops to erect a new house for one of their disabled War Heroes, resident in Mahakumbukgollewa, Punewa in Medawachchiya to the value of Rs 1.5 m.

As a part of the ongoing housing project of the Sri Lanka Army in keeping with instructions that have been issued by General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army, the new house thus built was vested in the differently able beneficiary of 8 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment by Major General Kithsiri Liyanage, Colonel of the Regiment, SLSR and General Officer Commanding, 11 Division on 10 December 2021 during a simple ceremony.

The simple warming ceremony at Poonewa saw keys were handed over to the recipient after opening a plaque amid ‘Seth Pirith’, milk-pot boiling rituals, etc. Brigadier Wiraj Wimalasena, Cenre Commandant at SLSR RHQ, Staff Officers, Commanding Officer 15 SLSR, Major R.M.J.A.B Rajapaksha, soldiers, family members of the beneficiary and residents of the area were present during the event.
